What is the Legacy of Iowa Engineering?

The Legacy of Iowa Engineering was created to recognize faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the College of Engineering who made exceptional historical contributions toward advancing the college in teaching, research, or service during their engagement with the college.

When did the Legacy of Iowa Engineering begin?

The first induction ceremony took place in June 2004 in association with Alumni Reunion Weekend.

How does someone become a member of Legacy?

Anyone may nominate an individual who was a faculty member, staff member, alumnus, or friend, or is currently an alumnus or friend of the College of Engineering, and made exceptional contributions toward advancing the college in teaching, research, or service. Eligibility for faculty members begins seven years after ending their service to the college.

Who are the current members of the Legacy?

Members' names and biographical sketches can be found on the membership page. The members also are featured in a permanent display near the Lobby of the Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences.

How do I nominate someone?

The nomination must be submitted in the form of a maximum three-page letter to the Office of the Dean, describing the nominee’s contributions toward achieving the objective of induction as a member of the Legacy of Iowa Engineering. No supporting letters are needed.

Only one person will be inducted as a member of the legacy each year.

The nominations will be reviewed by the college’s Engineering Administrative Council and recommended to the dean for induction into the Legacy of Iowa Engineering.
