Brewing up big ideas through industrial engineering

When Megan Greenwood graduated with her industrial engineering degree from the University of Iowa in 2011, she was working to solve one issue in engineering: the lack of women engineers across industry. Before long, she would be addressing another problem: the lack of women-led breweries among the approximately 9100 breweries in the United States.

DARPA highlights UI's contributions as ACE program transitions from simulation to live flight

In less than three years, artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms developed under DARPA’s Air Combat Evolution (ACE) program have progressed from controlling simulated F-16s flying aerial dogfights on computer screens to controlling an actual F-16 in flight. University of Iowa's Operator Performance Lab has contributed to the progress.

The University of Iowa National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS) has been renamed to the University of Iowa Driving Safety Research Institute (DSRI) to better reflect the unit’s established expertise in driving simulation and emerging work in on-road driving research.

Come to Filmscene for a screening of the Common Ground documentary on Wednesday, May 22. Common Ground details the money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. After the film, a panel discussion will be held with Iowa Valley RC&D Executive Director Jason Grimm, IIHR's own Kate Giannini, Natasha Wilson from West Fork Farmstead, and Tommy Hexter from the Iowa Farmer's Union. The event is a pay-what-you-can admission with a suggested price of $10 per person, with proceeds directly supporting the Grow program.
